magdalena alice nilges

My spot is in that beautiful edge habitat between art and science. For myself, art is how I investigate the way the world works. And I find it reflects it back, providing flexible communication for a fluidity of comprehension. Drawing in physics class made me better at both, but in the end I choose to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Laguna College of Art and Design in 2014. Working as a graphic designer I came to appreciate the public engagement that it provided to artwork and I went on to a Master in Design at University of Washington in 2017. My thesis focused on sustainable design which let me to investigated how art can benefit or antagonize our relationship with the environment, specifically timescales that are intangible to the human experience. Through research guided by interview with academics in ecology I played with alternate ways to understand non-human timescales through designed objects. This knowledge has followed me to my current job at Jacobs Engineering Inc., where I now work with technical experts to communicate information to the public about innovative solutions to complex problems that effect our environment.
